About this tutorial

This tutorial is aimed at users who have not used Application Studio before and who need an introduction, not just to the basics, but to some more complex topics. It aims to provide a foundation for further training or self-study. The tutorial begins with instructions on how to create a report that displays data from the Product and Period dimensions of the ANALYSIS cube in the Best Practices sample database. Each subsequent report is built on the previous report.

The sample reports that this tutorial instructs you to create are reproduced in Reports > Extras > Tutorials in the Report Catalog. However, not every step described is saved in a report. So, to get the most benefit from this tutorial, we recommend that you create the reports yourself.

The sample reports use global variables that are provided. However, this tutorial instructs you to create the same variables, with different names. For example, the reports use global variable gv_ProductLevel and the tutorial instructs you to create a variable called gv_ProductLevel2. You can either use the existing variables, or create them as instructed; but be consistent in the approach you choose.
