Map charts
A map chart can display locations on a map, or locations and associated values. For example, you could display pins to indicate the locations of your sales offices. Or you could display bubbles, or a mini chart at each location to show the value of its sales.
To indicate locations, create a Pin chart. You can select different styles of pin.
To display values associated with locations create one of these types of map chart:
- Bubble: The sizes of the bubbles reflect the magnitude of the values they represent.
- Pie
- Column
- Line
You can use coordinates or addresses to specify locations on map charts. We recommend, particularly if there are many locations, that you use coordinates and store them in OLAP Server.
To use coordinates, you require the longitude and latitude of each location in Signed Degree format. That is, numbers of up to 8 decimal places which represent latitudes from -85° to 85° and longitudes from -180° to 180°. Southern latitudes and Western longitudes are prefixed with a minus (-) sign. For example:
51.476893, -0.000561
To use address information you require, for example, city names or zip codes.
Location information might be stored, for example, as attributes or in a relational list. See these topics:
By using multiple data series, you can mix different chart types in a single Map Chart.
When you create a map chart you can specify the type of map on which the map chart is presented and the map controls. The types of map are:
- Satellite: With or without labels naming the countries and oceans.
- Map: With or without color coding to indicate the terrain.
The map controls include Zoom and Street View.
You can define chart click actions in map charts.
