You create reports by displaying the contents of lists and manipulating them with formulas. Often, you do not want to display the entire contents of a list in a report. The List Designer lets you specify which elements to display. In the List Designer for server lists you use structure selection, filters, sorting, attributes and a series of advanced features.There is a separate list designer for client lists. This has a different layout from the server list designer but provides essentially the same functionality.
