Using wildcards in searches

You can use the wildcard searches to find information. Wildcard searches are not case sensitive, except when the search is run against an Oracle database.

Caution:
Oracle databases process searches in a case-sensitive manner.

In text fields, use asterisk (*) with characters. Press Enter or click Find. For example, specify S in the Last Name field and then click Enter to display all the users whose last names begin with S. Wildcard searches are not considered for any numeric fields.

The different databases evaluate wildcard searches in a different way. Oracle considers trailing spaces in a field significant, while MSSQL ignores them. For example, in MSSQL, to find all names ending in y, you can use the wildcard search string *y. To do the similar search in Oracle, you must use the string *y* to search for all names that have a y followed by a blank space.
