Understanding permissions

Permissions can be provided at two levels in the Infor SAT application:

  • Read/Write: The administrator can view, add, or modify data.
  • Read Only: The administrator can only view the data.

Permissions are defined for the administrative roles.

The Permission status is displayed on the home page of the application. For example, the title bar displays Administrator - User Information - jsmith - Read Only, if an administrator with the login jsmith belongs to a group that has Read Only access.

The permission levels in the application can vary. An administrator can have Read/Write access to some data and Read Only access to the other data. An administrator's role indicates the level of the permission granted.

The permission levels determine the tasks the administrator can perform and the screens the administrator can access. For example, if an administrator is not a part of the group that has Read/Write or Read Only access to the User Information screen, the administrator cannot access the screen and a warning message is displayed.

Access to the admin group enables an administrator to review the data during a work session. To log on to a specific admin group, an administrator must log on to the Infor SAT application.

The diagram explains the relation between the admin groups and the available data.

The permission level determines the information and the data that is displayed in the Corporate Data and the Groups menu. The permission based on the data type determines the action that the administrator can perform.

For example,

  • An administrator of a group with Read/Write access to the Corporate Data and a group with Read Only access to the Company corporate data type can review the company data but cannot edit the Company data type.
  • An administrator of a group with Read/Write access to the Corporate Data and a group with Read Only access to the Company corporate data type can review the company data but cannot edit the Company data type.

The permission does not have any effect, if the administrator has no access to the Corporate Data or the Groups menu.

For example, an administrator of a group has access to the Corporate Data but belongs to a group that has Read/Write access to a specific data type. The Corporate Data is not displayed for the administrator. Therefore, the administrator cannot edit the data type.
