Understanding the QC sampling process
Once the user receives the ASN using an RF device, the system initially checks for the corresponding Ship From, Owner, and Item data. The subsequent QC sampling process is described below.
- The system compares the QC
sampling rule to the ASN information and uses the first match found in the
following priority order:
- Ship From/Owner/Item
- Ship From/Item
- Owner/Item
- Ship From/Owner
- Ship From
- Owner
- If no matches are found, QC sampling is not performed.
- If the QC First Receipt of Item field within the QC sampling rule is selected, the item is quality checked the first time it is received into the warehouse. The first LPN for this item is placed on hold using the sampling hold code specified in the QC sampling rule. The status of any created putaway tasks is set to Held by System. When the item is initially received, the message QC is required for this Item is displayed on the RF device.
- If a numerical value is
specified within the
% of Item Quantity field in
the QC sampling rule, the system determines the quantity of the item to be
sampled by comparing the expected quantity within the ASN detail to the
specified percentage.
- If the Split Sampling onto New LPN field is not selected, the entire LPN is placed on hold using the sampling hold code specified in the QC sampling rule. The status of any created putaway tasks is set to Held by System. The message QC is required for Qty xxx, LPN xxxxxxxxx is displayed on the RF device.
- If the
Split Sampling onto New
LPN field is selected, the system splits off the sampling
percentage to a separate LPN. Only the split off LPN is placed on hold using
the sampling hold code specified in the QC sampling rule. The status of any
created putaway tasks is set to Held by System. The message
QC is required for Qty xxx, LPN xxxxxxxxxx is
displayed on the RF device.
- If the Split Sampling onto New LPN and the Auto Generate LPN for Split fields are both selected, the system automatically generates a new LPN. You can, though, edit the automatically-generated LPN. When the LPN is generated, the message QC required for Qty xxx, LPN xxxxxxxxxx generated is displayed on the RF device.
- If the Split Sampling onto New LPN field is selected but the Auto Generate LPN for Split field is not selected, you are prompted to generate a new LPN. The message QC required for Qty xxx. Generate/Scan LPN. is displayed on the RF device.
If the defined sampling quantity percentage is not satisfied by the first transaction received, the sampling process continues until the necessary sampling amounts are met.
- If a numerical value is specified within the Every X Deliveries field in the QC sampling rule, the system checks the QC counter to determine if it is time to QC deliveries. For example, if the specified value in the Every X Deliveries field is 10 and the QC counter is at 9, the ASN being received increases the counter by one to 10 and requires QC sampling. All LPNs on the ASN are placed on hold using the sampling hold code specified in the QC sampling rule. The status of any created putaway tasks is set to Held by System. The message QC is required for this entire ASN is displayed on the RF device.
- If a numerical value is specified within the Every X Transactions field in the QC sampling rule, the system checks the QC counter to determine if it is time to QC transactions. For example, if the specified value in the Every X Transactions field is 10 and the QC counter is at 9, the ASN being received increases the counter by one to 10 and requires QC sampling. The LPN on the transaction is placed on hold using the sampling hold code specified in the QC sampling rule. The status of any created putaway tasks is set to Held by System. The message QC is required for this LPN is displayed on the RF device.
Once material has been inspected and the QC status is Complete, the system releases the LPNs from hold and changes the status of the associated putaway task details to Pending.
