Special instructions for cluster picking

This section describes how to accept and process special instructions with cluster picking.

Note:
  • Picking notes only display if they have been entered at either the item or shipment order detail level. See Generating special instructions with RF picks.
  • Picking notes display after you enter all required data on the RF device and press Enter for the first time. This occurs before the application committing the transaction to the database.
  • Picking notes fields display what has been entered in the appropriate fields, up to a maximum of 255 characters.

To accept and process special instructions for cluster picking:

  1. From the RF device Main menu, select the Picking option. The Pick Menu (PM1) screen is displayed.
  2. Select Cluster Picking (1). The Cluster Pick (TM20) screen is displayed.
  3. Perform one of the following:
    • If picking orders (selecting By Order ID) sends all picks to the user, including cases, pieces and pallets, select By Order ID.
    • If picking cases, select By Case ID.
    • To return to the Task Manager screen, press Esc.
  4. Specify the Area.
  5. Perform one of the following:
    • To perform the pick tasks in Forward (ascending) order, press F.
    • To perform the tasks in Reverse (descending) order, press R.
    • Using Forward and Reverse allows two pickers to pick the same order; one starting at end of pick aisle and the other starting at the beginning.
  6. Press Enter. A list of blank numbered lines is displayed.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • For the Enter Orders (TM31) screen, specify the Shipment Order number for each order to be picked, up to 30.
    • For the Enter Case IDs (TM41) screen, specify the Tote/Case IDs, up to 30.
  8. After you enter the last order or Case ID, the application displays the first pick, based on the selection sequence. Press Enter twice. The screens display just as the Task Picking options described above.
  9. To accept the pick, press Enter.

Any special instructions associated with the shipment order or item display here. When special instructions are defined for both the item and the shipment order detail, both instructions display on the RF device. Special instructions defined for the item display first (NTS1), followed by those defined for the Shipment Order detail (NTS2). See the following example.

This is an example of special instructions (cluster picking):

  10. A new Pick (TPKO or TPKC) screen is displayed. Confirm the field information.

  11. Press Enter.
  12. Do one of the following:
    • To accept the next task, press Enter.
    • To cancel, press Esc.

The application transmits the pick information to the server and the pick is confirmed.

  13. After you press Enter, the application sends the next pick for the same location. If there are no picks for same location, the application sends picks for the next location, following the Forward or Reverse logic.
  14. When all picks for the tote have been completed, the RF device displays a Close Tote message. If you have arrived at the end of a pick path and the RF device has not returned a Close Tote message for all totes, this means outstanding picks are in other work areas. RF pickers assigned in other work areas scan the remaining totes to retrieve any outstanding tasks.
  15. If no more tasks exist, the application displays the message: Nothing to do. To enter another series of order numbers or Case IDs, press Esc.
