Inventory transfer overview
This section describes a transfer and why it is used in the warehouse. It explains the steps for transferring inventory from owner to owner and re-assigning lot attributes.
The inventory transfer allows the warehouse to change the characteristics of an item, such as lot number, and transfer the ownership of an item from one owner to another. The inventory transfer creates a deposit transaction and a withdrawal transaction in the inventory module.
Serial number tracking
You can track serial numbers from receipt through shipment in Infor WMS Warehouse Management. See the Infor WMS Capture Weight, Serial Number, and Data User Guide for information on how to perform inventory transfers for items that require serialized tracking.
Using inventory transfers
A 3PL (Third Party Logistics) or public warehouse uses a transfer to change the ownership of items from one of its storage customers to another. A privately-managed warehouse uses a transfer to maintain the accuracy of the data associated to an inventory record. The transfer function can also be used to change the item number of current stock. For example, if a retailer has changed the catalog number of an item, the warehouse needs to change its inventory to reflect the same item number.
