Carton
If the operation wants the system to perform cartonization for dynamic picking, carton groups need to be defined to allow the system to create this information during allocation.
Key information to define includes:
Carton Group
This is assigned to the item to determine the category associated to the product. Items with the same carton group are grouped when determining the container. Some common examples in dynamic pick operations are groups of Freezer, Cooler, and Dry.
With this setup, any item identified as Freezer could be picked to the same outbound container (based on size limitations). Cooler and Dry items are directed to different containers.
Carton Type
This is used to set different sizes within a carton group if needed. This allows the system to make efficient use of space within containers. Some carton groups have one carton type, while others might have multiple carton types with different sizes of cartons.
See the Infor WMS Configuration User Guide for more information about this topic.
Limitations
Various settings are available to restrict the amount of product the system directs to be picked to the same container. The limits can be set by Count (number of units), Weight, and Cube.
