Classic Allocation and Classic Pre-Allocation Overview
The full classic allocation process in Infor WMS is broken down into two parts. Classic pre-allocation is the first part of the process. The classic pre-allocation process determines which system lot numbers should be used to satisfy the order quantity for each item as well as the various units of measure that are to be used by allocation.
Following pre-allocation, the allocation step of the process then uses the results of pre-allocation to determine the specific locations, license plates, and quantities to be used for picking the order.
When modifying existing strategies or creating new strategies, it is important to understand how the Pick Code is used by the system. The Pick Code, which is a part of each detail instruction on the strategy, represents a type of logic designed to allocate inventory in a certain way. The strategic use of these Pick Codes along with other criteria defined on the strategy allows the allocation processes to be customized to meet operational needs.
Pick Codes exist for both Classic Pre-Allocation and Classic Allocation. It is the combination of these two pieces on the Classic Master Allocation Strategy that provides the flexibility needed to control the pick process as needed.
