Classic Pre-allocation strategy
Classic pre-allocation is used to check for sufficient stock to fill an order. The product does not necessarily need to be in the primary pick location. Pre-allocation is considered a soft hold on inventory, based on lot information. This means that even though stock is pre-allocated, a user can still move the inventory.
The classic pre-allocation process determines the lot from which to pick the order, as well as the number of pallets, cases, or inner packs needed for the order. The system lot is determined during pre-allocation from the rotation rules defined on the item master. One component for rotation is FIFO or LIFO (First In, First Out / Last In First Out). FIFO is the standard rotation rule. The second component is which criteria from inventory is used for sorting. The criteria available are any of the twelve lot attributes or the system lot number

STD | Determine quantity need by UOM. | The system will break up pick tasks according to each unit of measure level needed to fulfill the order quantity. |
STD2 | Rotate by Lot, no breaks based on UOM. | The system will allocate based on lot rotation only, without breaking up commands based on unit of measure. |
STD7 | Break picks by Case UOM. Assigned Case Pick location is optional. | Allocate by UOM. If a case pick location is assigned, it will be used for Case UOM picks. If there is not one assigned, it will allocate from another location. |
STD8 | Empty location after get first lot. | Use rotation rule to find the lot, then empty that location even if it is a different lot. |
