System directed lot swapping
When using system directed lot swapping, the inventory is automatically swapped within the system and presented to you as a pick task.
Lot swap only occurs if the lot and LPN specified on the pick detail does not exist in the location. A system check verifies whether the pick location has enough inventory of the lot allocated. If sufficient inventory of the allocated lot exists, then a swap is not necessary and the pick is completed as allocated. If insufficient inventory of the allocated lot is found, then a system check verifies if there is enough inventory of another lot. Both allocated and non-allocated inventory is checked. If another lot is found, then these rules must be validated before a lot swap can occur:
- Allocation by lottables
- Shelf life
- Exclude last shipped expiration and manufacturing
- Exclude returned lot
- Allocation lot limit
If swapping with a lot allocated to another order, then both orders must pass the validations.
When a lot is not found or fails validation, the swap is not performed and the pick remains in the queue.
When a lot is found, a swap of the lots occurs by updating the pick details and you are presented with the pick. If the swapped lot does not have enough inventory, the pick details are split: one for the quantity of the swapped lot and another pick detail for the remaining quantity of the original lot.
Pick details that are on a Shipment Order Type with a Hold Allocation cannot be swapped. If there is catch weight and data or serials already provided on the pick detail, then no swap can occur.
