Defining an activity

To define and activity:

  1. From the Labor menu, select Scheduling > Facility > Activity. The system displays the Activity list view.
  2. Click New.
  3. Specify this information:
    Activity
The ID or name for the work activity. This activity name is used on the planning pages.
    Description
Type the detailed description of this activity.
    Activity Type
The category of this activity. The available activity types are:
    • Scheduled: The number of scheduled users determines the work volume.
    • Miscellaneous: The average number of transactions per day determines the work volume. This is calculated by taking the total number of transactions divided by the number of days on which you have at least one transaction.
    • Inbound: The Receipt/ASNs in the facility determine the work volume.
    • Outbound: Shipment order quantities in the facility determine the work volume.
    Non-Working Days
The direction to move the work if it occurs on a non-working day. Valid values:
    • Shift Work Forward: Move the work to the next working day.
    • Shift Work Back: Move the work to the previous working day.

For example, if your facility is open only Monday through Friday and you define the Activity Time Shift as 1440 (24 hours in advance), the picking for the outbound orders that are scheduled to ship on Monday is calculated work on Sunday. Shift Work Back moves the picking work back to the previous working day, which is Friday.

    Planning Units
The units to use to calculate the work volume. The available planning units are:
    • Cases: Use carton or case units as defined by the item.
    • Tasks: Use logical breakdown into tasks. Full pallet quantities are on task per pallet: partials are one task.
    • Users: Use Users for scheduled activity types only.
    Activity Time Shift (mins)
The time shift (offset) for which to perform an activity prior to the scheduled activity completion date. This can be a positive or negative offset.
    Ignore Zones Less than %
The percent that indicates that if the calculated statistics for a specific zone are less than that percent, the system does not use this zone for labor calculation and planning purposes.
    Default Zone
For non-system activities, specify the default zone to which to assign the work. This is a required field but only used to identify the zone under which non-system activities should be reported.
    System Activity
The type of system activity associated with this activity definition. System activities are specific transaction types that occur in the WM system, such as putaway and picking. The available system activities are based on the activity type for this activity record. Use Other to define the transactions and tasks manually.
    Calculate Stats From
The starting date in a date range to use to calculate the statistics on the labor transactions (Used for system activities).
    Calculate Stats To
The ending date for the date range for calculation of statistics. If you leave this field blank, the current date is used.
    Calculate On Last (days)
The user-defined rolling date window in number of days. This parameter has priority over the values in the Calculate Stats From and Calculate Stats To fields if a value is in both.
    Labor Planning Uses
Select Standard Time Statistics for the system to estimate the amount of work based on the standards configured for the activity. Select Actual Time Statistics for the system to use historical data in estimating the work load.
