Using physicals

Physicals provide accountants with the truest possible picture of the current state of the inventory. Full physical inventories are often performed before the installation of a new warehouse to avoid transferring problems from the existing application to the new application. Physicals are performed on a very limited basis because of the high cost associated with performing them.

To be effective, physicals require suspension of activities, such as deliveries. Before beginning the physical, a warehouse must ensure that all stock is in a valid location and all shipments and pending adjustments are complete.

Serial number tracking

You can track serial numbers from receipt through shipment in Infor WMS Warehouse Management. This release of the application does not support performing physical inventory of serialized product. This release does support cycle counting and you can use it in most environments for effective counting and maintenance of inventory levels.

See the Infor WMS Capture Weight, Serial Number, and Data User Guide for information on how to perform cycle counting for items that require serialized tracking.

Common examples using physicals

A physical is now due because accountants have mandated biannual physicals.

One company has merged with another; therefore, full physicals of each warehouse facility have been mandated.
