Batch picking to a grid overview
The batch picking to a grid feature overview includes:
- Batching of orders
- Orders are placed on a wave based on a customer's desired order parameters. The orders are then batched using the Batch for Pick to Grid wave function.
- Creation of batched orders per sortation station
- Batch orders are created - one for each sortation station - for the
items on the orders. For example, freezer items, cooler items, and ambient items would
each be a separate batch order.
Batch orders are created based on the item department and item class (item class is optional) assigned to the sortation station. They are also created based on Ship To customers associated to the sortation station.
- Sortation station configuration
- Sortation station configuration provides the ability to link the item
department and class, and to link Ship To/Ship To Group customers to the sort locations.
Note that there can be more than one sortation station for an item department and class,
but the Ship To customers for each sortation station must be unique.
The system automatically creates a location type "Sort location" for the physical existence of the sort locations. The system moves inventory to the "Sort location" as the Drop IDs are sorted.
- Order allocation for batched waves
- The allocation process for Pick To Grid batched waves is similar to the
existing batching process with the exception of multiple batch order creation. The
allocation strategy used is the default strategy assigned to the items on the orders.
After picking, the LPN scanned for sorting is picked specifically for the sortation station. The actual picks are associated to the customer order when the sorting process is completed to the sort location.
- Sorting
- The sorting process provides the ability to pick the inventory from Drop LPNs to the sort locations designated for the Ship To customers. You can perform the sorting process using RF or voice functionality.
