Shift overview

The Shift Definition page identifies the starting and ending times of a shift and all of the breaks that are in between. This identifies a shift that a user normally works on a regular basis: a double shift, a split shift, a single shift, and so on.

The start of one shift can overlap with the end of the previous shift. If a shift begins on one day and continues past midnight of the next day, the work for the entire shift is part of the beginning day’s work.

If you specify that a user is scheduled for a shift that does not have labor enabled on the planning screen, the time is mapped into the shifts that do have labor enabled. For example, if shift 1 and shift 2 are labor-enabled and you configure a double shift that is not labor-enabled for users that are working both (not labor enabled), the user is in both shift 1 and shift 2 for planning purposes.

Changes to the starting and ending times of the shift are global changes to the work schedules. A change to a shift updates all of the user work schedules that start from the day of the change. If you add exceptions to the user work schedule, the work schedules are unaffected.
