Placing inventory on hold using the Location screen

This section describes how to put a location on hold on the Location screen by associating a flag with the location. The Location Flag field allows you to tag a field as on hold.

The Location Flag field identifies the purpose of the location. Options include: Damage, Hold, and None. The available codes can be altered in the System Codes Maintenance screen (Configuration > Codes > System), but only Damage and Hold causes product to be placed on hold.

This type of location hold is intended for locations that are always used as hold locations, including locations reserved for Damage, QC, or Return usage. The location flag cannot be updated to Hold or Damage if there is any inventory in the location. If a location hold needs to be applied temporarily, use the Inventory Hold screen and create the hold by location.

When a location is flagged as on hold, the inventory at the location cannot be allocated for orders. When items are moved into a hold location, the items are also on hold. When items are moved out of a hold location, the items are taken off hold status, unless:

  • The items are moved into another hold location
  • The items are on hold by Lot, License Plate, or Location per the Inventory Holds screen.
