Requirements for capture of weight, data, or serial numbers

Certain items are bought and sold by weight rather than eaches. The weights vary and must be caught to determine the exact amount charged. There are many variations to this, such as large retailers purchasing and receiving in these variable weights. However, when the item is sent to retail outlets, an average weight is used to avoid the need to catch them again during shipment.

Other operations require catching specific data that is unique to each shipped item. Catch data allows for this type of catch. Caught serial numbers are an example of this type of requirement.

Common examples of when catch weight and catch data would be required include the following:

  • A warehouse services internal outlets and wholesale customers. The outlets receive items by average weight. The wholesale customers insist on paying by the pound.
  • A warehouse is tracking electronic items that require detailed tracking throughout the operation.
  • A warehouse is required to catch the serial number of each unit that arrives.
  • A warehouse is required to capture the serial numbers for their product during outbound shipments only.
