What is a strategy?

A strategy is a list of rules for a function that have been assigned to an item or the user. Strategies are used to control rules for determining the location for putaway, getting the specific inventory to use for order allocation, distributing tasks to users for warehouse operations, and specifying operator input for some fields on RF when picking.

Strategies consist of a series of logical steps the application attempts to perform to complete the specific function. These steps are attempted sequentially, starting with the lowest number.

User

A Task Dispatch Strategy is used to control the sequence various task types should be given to RF users. Each user is assigned a Task Dispatch strategy to help determine the priority of the various task types to that user.

Item

Two types of strategies are maintained for the Item:

  • There are two variations of Allocation strategies available within SCE. One variation is Classic Allocation, which consists of sub-strategies for Classic Pre-allocation and Classic Allocation rules used by the system. There is also a new variation of Allocation strategy available which does not use sub-strategies. You can only configured and used one of these allocation strategy variations for each item. These allocation strategies can be found for the item by navigating to by navigating to Configuration > Item and opening the Outbound tab.
  • Putaway which controls the logical steps followed by the system when determining where newly received product should be put away. The putaway strategy can be found for the item by navigating to Configuration > Item and opening the Inbound tab.

Zone

RF Picking strategies are controlled at the Zone level. On the Zone Pick Method tab, you can select the RF Picking Strategy that should be used for the items within that zone.

Another form of putaway and moving product following receipt is using the Auto Move function within the application. This provides the ability to logically flow product from receipt to storage using steps that may include time as an element to manage the timing of inventory movement. The Auto Move Strategy is used to configure these rules. The Auto Move Strategy can be found for the item by selecting Configuration > Item and opening the Inbound tab.

Task Manager user

  • The user enters the area of the warehouse through RF (Radio Frequency) Option 9 – Task Manager.
  • Infor WMS Warehouse Management finds the main strategy key for the Task Manager user by selecting to Configuration > Productivity > User Permission.
  • Each step of the task strategy is performed to determine which type of task should be presented to the user.
