Business Example 4 - Shift Premium Zone
This example covers these business needs:
- Employees earn a $30 premium, charged against a special project code, NIGHT INCENTIVE, if they work any eligible time between 18:00 and 00:00 (Midnight).
- Employees must be scheduled to a shift that starts before 12:00 and ends before 18:00 to be eligible to earn a premium. This requirement takes into account the multiple shifts employees often work on one day.
- Employees must start working before 12:00 to be eligible to earn a premium.
- Of the time employees work during the day, at least 25% of the work must occur between 12:00 and 16:00.

Results
4a - Employee earns a premium
In this example, the employee is scheduled to work the MORNING shift, which runs from 6:00 to 11:00. The employee has also picked up the AFTERNOON shift, and is scheduled to work from 12:00 to 17:00 as well. The employee stays late to help out and records working from 6:00 to 11:00 and 12:00 to 22:00. The employee works 10 hours during the second shift, 2 of which are paid at an overtime rate.
The employee has recorded 4 hours of eligible time in the zone, was scheduled to start before 12:00 and end before 18:00, started work before 12:00, and worked at least 25% of their time between 12:00 and 16:00, so the Shift Premium Zone Rule pays the employee a 1-hour, $30 premium. The premium is charged against the NIGHT INCENTIVE project.
4b - Employee scheduled too late
In this example, the employee is scheduled to work the MORNING and EVENING shifts, from 6:00 to 11:00 and then again from 18:00 to 22:00. The employee records working from 6:00 to 11:00 and 18:00 to 22:00, with a break at 11:00. The employee works 9 hours, 1 of which is paid at an overtime rate.
The employee has recorded 4 hours of eligible time in the zone, but since the employee's second shift was scheduled to end after 18:00, the employee is not eligible to earn a premium.
