Skills

Each employee has a list of skills that they possess. These skills can be certain certifications, competencies, or qualifications that may also be effective-dated. When a new shift is defined, skills can be associated to the shift as qualification factors. An employee must have such qualifications in order to be staffed.

Skills are used to help further refine the employee's ability to perform certain jobs. A skill can be also considered to be a credential. For example, a skill can be Registered Nurse. The skill can be effective dated for the employee, so if the skill expires due to incomplete educational requirements, the skill is no longer valid for that employee.

Skills can be designated as mandatory or non-mandatory. Having a mandatory skill defined for a shift will produce an error when an assigned employee does not possess the skill, and the assignment will not be allowed. Having a non-mandatory skill defined for a shift will produce a warning when an employee does not possess the skill, but the employee can still be assigned to the shift if needed. When looking for employees to fill shifts, you can filter by skill making it faster to find a qualified employees.

A numerical proficiency level is specified for each skill that is added to a shift. Employees must have the skill with a proficiency level that is the same or greater than the specified proficiency level to satisfy the skill requirement. Same as if the employee does not have the skill, employees that have a lower proficiency for a mandatory skill than the required value cannot be assigned to the shift. Warnings are provided when the assigned employee does not have the required proficiency level for a non-mandatory skill.

Managing credentials

Many jobs in the Healthcare profession require current licenses and Board Certification. These licenses and certifications must be renewed periodically. By using the start and end dates in skills, you can audit and track these credentials. You can configure schedules so that only those employees with current credentials can be assigned.
