Promotion categories

Promotion categories are used to define the types of promotion dates that can be created. Each promotion category includes a description and a scale (Small, Medium, or Large), which defines the expected effect on sales or volume. To improve the quality of the forecast results, categories that are assigned the same scale should have similar effects on sales volumes.

For example, a department store might have these promotion categories:
Category Scale Description
WEEKLY FLYER Small Weekly distribution day for the store discount or coupon flyer
SEASONAL SALE Medium Quarterly sales events
PUBLIC HOLIDAY Medium Public holidays, including holiday weekends
ANNUAL SALE Large Once-a-year sales events, such as Black Friday
