Setting shift types as days off in Auto-Assignment

You can specify shift types to be counted as days off in the Off Shift Type(s) field in the Manage Auto-assignment Group page. This allows schedulers to manually assign shifts with the specified shift types to employees to satisfy requests not to be scheduled on a specific date, without requiring a time off request. When schedules are created, shifts in the existing schedule with the specified shift types are counted as days off for the purposes of Auto-Assignment rules. Shifts with the specified shift types are assigned as normal by Auto-Assignment when they are in the set of shifts to be assigned.

For example, the Auto-Assignment group specifies that shifts with the DAYOFF type are days off. The group uses the Minimum Consecutive Days Off rule to require employees have at least 2 days off in a row when Auto-Assignment gives them a day off. When the schedule is generated, an employee has an existing shift with the shift type DAYOFF assigned to them on Tuesday. This means Auto-Assignment can leave either Monday or Wednesday unscheduled for this employee to satisfy the Minimum Consecutive Days Off rule.
