Compare mode

To compare and migrate:

  1. Launch the Migration Tool.
  2. In the Select Action page, select Compare and Migrate and then click Next.
  3. From the Source Database drop-down list of the Connect to Database page, select the source database.
    This represents the database from where you want to migrate the data. If you cannot find the source database in the drop-down list, then you must create a new database connection. For steps on how to create a new database connection, see Create a new database connection.
  4. In the Password field, specify the database password for the source database.
  5. From the Destination Database drop-down list, select the destination database.
    This represents the database to where you want to migrate the data. If you cannot find the destination database in the drop-down list, then you must create a new database connection. For steps on how to create a new database connection, see Create a new database connection.
  6. In the Password field, specify the database password for the destination database.
  7. Click Next > Connect. The source and destination databases that you have successfully connected to are listed in the status bar near the top of the Migration Tool page.
  8. In the Select Tables/Functional Objects page, select one of these options:
    • Tables to display a list of all the tables that are available for migration.
    • Functional Objects to display a list of all the functional objects that are available for migration.
  9. Select the tables or functional objects you want to compare and optionally apply filters to the selected objects.

  10. Click Next > Compare.

    After the Migration Tool finishes comparing each table or functional object, the results from the compare are displayed in the Compare Mode - Select Differences screen. If the Migration Tool does not detect data differences between the source and destination databases, then the following validation message will be displayed when you click Next > Compare:

    Message Reason or Action Required
    The data in the migration file matches that in the target environment. No migration is required. No differences were detected between the source and destination database. Therefore, you do not need perform a migration. Verify that the source and destination databases you chose are correct.
  11. Determine which fields or records that you want to include or exclude from the migration process by selecting or deselecting the Migrate check box. For tips on how to view and include or exclude records and fields, see Select the Migration Data.
  12. Optional. Click View Migration Summary to analyze the Export Summary Report.
  13. After you have refined your compare results and determined which differences you want to migrate, click Next > Create Migration File. The Export Audit Details pop-up window is displayed.
  14. Optionally, select the Encrypt Export File check box to encrypt the migration file. Then click Open in the PGP Public Key File field and select the public PGP key you are using to encrypt the migration file.
    Note: If the migration file is encrypted, you cannot import it using this procedure. It can only be imported using the Import Migration File maintenance form in WFM.
  15. In the User Name field, specify your name.
  16. In the Purpose field, specify the reason why you are performing the migration.
  17. Click Continue. The Select the Migration File pop-up window is displayed.
  18. Specify a filename for the export file you are about to create and then click Export.
  19. Select one of these options:
    • To migrate the data now, select Migrate Now and then click Next.

      The Migration Details pop-up window is displayed. If a warning message appears asking if you would like to proceed with the migration, review the reference data in the message box and then click Yes to proceed with the migration.

    • To continue selecting more tables or functional objects, select Compare More Objects Now and Migrate Later and then click Next. Return to step 8 to continue the compare process.

    • To migrate data at a later time, click Cancel and then click Yes when the warning message “All comparison results will be lost. Do you want to proceed?” is displayed.

      When you are ready to migrate the data, see Run migration file.

    • If you encrypted the migration file, it can only be imported using the Import Migration File maintenance form in WFM. Click Cancel and then click Yes when the warning message "All comparison results will be lost. Do you want to proceed?" is displayed.

      When you are ready to migrate the data, see Importing data through the WFM application.

  20. Once the Migration Tool has successfully finished migrating the data from the source database to the destination database, the following message is displayed:

    Data was successfully migrated to <database name>.

    If the migration was not successful, then one of the following messages will be displayed:

    Message Reason or Action Required
    No data is migrated to <destination database name> Click View Data Not Migrated to view the Data Not Migrated report. You can print or save the file in HTML format to further analyze the data and determine the reasons why the data was not migrated.
    An error occurred while attempting to perform the migration. Click the arrow next to the message to determine the reasons for the error. Address the issues before you attempt the migration again.
  21. Optional. Click View Migrated Data to view the migrated data report.
  22. To continue selecting more tables or functional objects, click Compare More Objects and then return to step 8 to select more objects and repeat the compare process.
