Overview

This document provides an overview of the Shift Trades module and the related concepts.

The Shift Trades module allows employees to post shifts for trade and bid on posted shifts using the Employee Transaction Manager (ETM) and allows employees to trade shifts to known substitutes using the ETM or the main application.

There are two types of shift trades:

  • Posted shift trades, which allow employees to post shifts they want to trade on an electronic bulletin board and/or to bid on posted shifts.
  • Pre-determined shift trades, which allow employees to trade shifts with specified substitutes. That is, employees with the necessary job qualifications and skills to take over the original employee's shift.

Employees can perform either type of shift trade for their entire shift or for part of their shift. Also, shift trades can only occur between employees with equivalent job qualifications and skills, and when the substitute employee is available to take the shift.

There are a variety of concepts that you need to be familiar with in order to understand the Shift Trades module, including the following:

  • Shift trades
  • Qualifications
  • Substitutes
  • Overlap Minutes
