Staff Rules

Staff rules capture the constraints or preferences that guide the application when generating optimized schedules.

Constraints are firm parameters the application must follow. For example, if you select the Honor Employee Availability constraint, the application always looks at the employee’s specified availability and assigns shifts only when the employee’s availability matches the unstaffed shift.

Preferences are parameters that the application observes on a weighted basis, but which can be ignored if needed. For example, if you select the Do Not Allow Overtime preference, the application honors this preference as much as possible to produce an optimized schedule. To honor the preference, the application uses the weight value given to this preference.

Weight is on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most preferred. For example, the application honors preferences with a weighting value of 10 over those with a value of 1.
