Removing a system lock manually

If an Async task fails and a system lock is not automatically removed, manually remove the lock.

To remove the lock manually:

  1. Verify that the Async task failed:
    1. Select Maintenance > System Administration > Interfaces > Import Transactions

      The Import Transactions page is displayed.

    2. Locate the task:
      • Under the Name column, the phrase ASYNCHRONOUS JOB TASK is displayed.
      • Under the Wbitran Status column, the term Failure is displayed.
  2. Determine the reason that the Async task failed. For example, a power failure.

    Do not try to rerun the task, as this may corrupt the data.

    For example, a budget manager manually edits sales for all locations on the Worksheet so that they increase by 20 percent, and the edit is implemented by an Async task. Suppose that a power failure occurs when the application has applied the changes to only half the locations. Restarting the task applies the changes to all locations, including those location to which the changes were already applied before the power failure. This condition results in sales for some locations being increased by 20 percent, while sales for other locations would increase by 44 percent (20 percent on top of the initial 20 percent increase).

  3. Try to recover data to the point before the Async started running:
    1. Select Maintenance > Optional Modules > Labor Budgeting > Labor Budgeting Settings > Recovery.

      The Recovery page is displayed.

    2. Click Edit for the action to recover.
    3. Click Recover.

    This schedules the task for recovery by creating a new Async task. The new task is displayed on the Import Transactions page.

  4. Determine if the recovery was successful:
    1. Select Maintenance > System Administration > Interfaces > Import Transactions

      The Import Transactions page is displayed.

    2. Locate the task in one of these locations:
      • Under the Name column, look for the phrase ASYNCHRONOUS JOB TASK.
      • Under the Wbitran Status column, look for the term:
        • PENDING while the task is running
        • Success if the task is successful
        • Failure if the task fails
  5. If the recovery attempt was unsuccessful, then the Wbitran Status of the new Async task is Failure. You can delete the lock on the System Locks page without corrupting the data, if the system lock was applied for clicking one of these worksheet actions:
    Lock
    No additional information.
    Unlock
    No additional information.
    Release
    Budget Management module only. This action is recommended only if data edited on the Worksheet was saved before clicking Release.
    Submit
    Budget Management module only. This action is recommended only if data edited on the Worksheet was saved before clicking Submit.
    Workload
    No additional information.
  6. To delete the lock:
    1. Select Maintenance > Optional Modules > Labor Budgeting > Labor Budgeting Settings > System Locks.

      The System Locks page is displayed.

    2. Locate the system lock.
    3. Click Edit next to the system lock to remove.
    4. In the System Locks Detail section, select the Del check box.
    5. Click Save.
  7. If the recovery attempt was unsuccessful, and the Wbitran Status of the new Async task is Failure, and if the action to which the lock was applied is not listed in the table in the previous step, then you must try to correct the Worksheet data manually.
