Validating Time Periods

If you change a time period on the Time Periods page, you must run the time-period validation to identify any time period violations, as described below. Labor Budgeting validates the selected node and all the nodes underneath it. Therefore, you should validate the year time period.

Violating any of the following rules is a time period violation:

  • There cannot be any gaps between time periods at leaf-level locations. For example, suppose that a week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday. The following week cannot start on a Tuesday: It must also start on Monday, as soon as the previous week ends.
  • There cannot be any time periods outside the hierarchy, because all child time periods must fit completely into their parent time periods. For example, all weeks must fit completely into months.
  • There cannot be any overlapping time periods. For example, suppose that a week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday. The following week cannot start on the Saturday of the previous week. The following week must also start on Monday.
  • All child time periods must be completely covered by (fit into) the root time period.

To validate a time period:

  1. Select Maintenance > Optional Modules > Labor Budgeting > Labor Budgeting Settings > Time Period Validation.
The Time Periods Validation page is displayed.
  2. In the left pane, select a time period.
  3. Click Validate.
If there are any time period violations in the selected time periods or the nodes below them, information about the violations is displayed in the Validation Results pane.

To correct the problem, you must manually change the time period records on the Time Periods Detail page, which you display by clicking Edit beside a time period on the Time Periods page. See Viewing and Editing Time Periods.
