Determining Target Clocks for Software or Configuration Updates

Before you can apply a software or configuration update, you must decide what clocks should be targeted for the update. Use these four options to determine which clocks should be updated:

  • All clocks
  • Specific clock types
  • Specific clocks within a clock type
  • Specific clocks

Although clocks can be eligible for more than one update, the clocks only download updates from one update folder. Clocks search for an update directory that matches their information and downloads the files from the first match.

Clocks search for updates in this order:

  1. Search for any updates for their name specifically, within their clock type.
  2. Search for any updates for their clock type.
  3. Search for any updates for their name specifically.
  4. Search for any updates for all clocks.

For example, a clock with the reader name WB9000-01 and a clock type of WB9000 as defined in the wbsynch.softwareupdates.type parameter of the settings.conf:

  1. First searches for WB9000-1 updates within the WB9000 clock type.
  2. If no updates are found, the clock searches for updates specific to the WB9000 clock type.
  3. If no updates are found, the clock searches for updates specific to WB9000-01, regardless of the clock type.

  4. If no updates are found, the clock searches for any generic updates.
