Recommended configuration of the Day Split Rule

We recommend configuring multiple instances of the Day Split Rule at different execution points, depending on your organization's needs.

See Rule execution points.

To create system-generated clocks when processed clocks are moved according to the day split time, you can configure an instance of the rule before the After Clocks Applied execution point.

If you are required to copy and split work details, configure two rule instances: one for copy and one for split. Both instances must be set up for the functionality to work properly.

To block manual work detail entries, you can configure an additional instance of the rule after the Rules Applied execution point. This configuration is optional and is not required for copying, splitting, or using the SplitMultiDayShift parameter.

For example, this is the recommended configuration if you are copying and splitting work details:

  1. Add the first instance of the rule to copy work details before After Timesheet Overrides Applied. This copies work details that were split from the previous day to the current day.

For this instance, select Copy Work Details and specify the eligible time codes and hour types.

  2. Add a second instance of the rule to split work details for the current day after Rules Applied. This should be the last pay rule for the calc group.

For this instance, select Split Work Details and specify the eligible time codes and hour types. If you need shifts and premiums that are longer than 24 hours to be divided across all affected workdays, you should also enable the SplitMultiDayShift parameter for this instance.

For both instances, you must also specify values for the Time Code to replace the original Time Code and Hour Type to replace the original Hour Type parameters.

Note:
  • The values that you specify for the copy and split instances of the rule must match.
  • SplitMultiDayShift is optional and only affects shifts and premiums that span more than 24 hours.
  • Blocking manual work detail entries can be configured in a separate instance of the Day Split Rule, if required, and is not needed for the SplitMultiDayShift behavior.
