Used on or in active rotations/templates until date logic

When you inactivate a rotation row that contains a shift or remove a shift from the latest active version, the Used on or in active rotations/templates until value is also updated. This value shows the last day the shift is generated or published from a shift template or a rotation. Consider these rules when you are monitoring the last day that the shift is generated or published from a shift rotation:

  • When a rotation or a row is in Draft status, it is not considered in the calculation.
  • If the row is active with no inactivation date, the Used on or in active rotations/templates until value is the same as the Effective End Date.
  • When you specify an inactivation date, the Used on or in active rotations/templates until value is recalculated based on the earliest inactivation date. For example, a rotation is active until 01/01/3000, but the inactivation date is on 12/01/2025. Then, the Used on or in active rotations/templates until value is 11/30/2025.
  • If a rotation row has multiple active versions and no inactive version, the days covered by the newer versions are excluded in from the calculation. The Used on or in active rotations/templates until value only shows the outcome of the rotation row after the newest version of the rotation is run.

Refer to these scenarios as examples:

In this example, there are two versions of the same row. Version 1 contains the shift 11D4 and is active from 07/21/2025-01/01/3000. Version 2 does not contain a shift but is active from 07/23/2025-01/01/3000. Version 2 of the shift overrides Version 1 starting from 07/23/2025. Therefore, the Used on or in active rotations/templates until value of 11D4 is on 07/22/2025, because that is the last date that the row can generate a shift. Version 2 takes place on 07/23/2025, and it does not contain the shift.

Version Shift Name Status Effective Date Used on or in active rotations/templates until
    1 11D4 Active 07/21/2025 - 01/01/3000 07/22/2025
    2 Active 07/23/2025 - 01/01/3000
For this scenario, there are three versions of the same row:
    • Version 1 consists of 15E8 shift
    • Version 2 entirely replaces 15E8 with 7D8
    • Version 3 entirely replaced 7D8
Shift 15E8 is generated or published until 08/31/2025, because 7D2 is effective from 09/01/2025. Shift 7D8 is generated until 11/30/2025, because 8D7 is effective from 12/01/2025. For Version 3, 8D7 applies to active rotations or templates until 01/01/3000. No other version of the rotation overrides its effective dates.
Version Shift Name Status Effective Date Used on or in active rotations/templates until
    1 15E8 Active 07/21/2025 - 01/01/3000 08/31/2025
    2 7D8 Active 09/01/2025 - 01/01/3000 11/30/2025
    3 8D7 Active 12/01/2025 - 01/01/3000 01/01/3000

In this example, there are four versions of the same row. The outcome of generating this row with four versions is that shift 15E8 is generated until 08/21/2025. Shifts 7D8 and 8D7 are generated until 11/30/2025 and 12/30/2025 respectively. The Used on or in active rotations/templates until value reflects these dates for each shift. The effective date of the latest version of the rotation remains part of the calculation even if it is inactive. Therefore, shift 8D7 publishes until 12/30/2025 since the latest rotation takes effect on 01/01/2026.

Version Shift Name Status Effective Date Used on or in active rotations/templates until
    1 15E8 Active 07/21/2025 - 01/01/3000 08/31/2025
    2 7D8 Active 09/01/2025 - 01/01/3000 11/30/2025
    3 8D7 Active 12/01/2025 - 01/01/3000 12/30/2025
    4 Inactive 01/01/2026 - 01/01/3000

When multiple versions of a shift exists, the newer version overrides the older version starting from its activation date.
