Coverage display options
You can change how coverage information is displayed by clicking the grid icon in the coverage panel. You can configure the view of the coverage by selecting one of these options in Display Coverage:
By Grouping
When you select By Grouping, you can compare staffing requirements with workload demand using multiple grouping levels, such as primary and secondary.
For a more detailed coverage breakdown including Position, Day Part, Shift, and Area, you can enable tertiary grouping, which is hidden by default. The option Area in all grouping dropdowns is hidden by default.
This list shows the available grouping parameters:
- Position: Shows the coverage for positions
- Day Part: Shows the coverage for day parts
- Shift: Shows the number of shifts
- Areas: Shows the coverage for areas
- If the same value is selected for primary, secondary, and tertiary groupings.
- If the selected value for secondary grouping is None and the tertiary grouping is not None.
- If Day Part and Shift are both selected in the grouping selections.
- If Day Part is not selected and By FTE is selected in Display Time field.
- If Include Area is set to false for the rotation and Area is selected as one of the grouping options.
You can also use the Display Time field, which is only available in By Grouping, to display coverage By Shift, By Hours, or By FTE.
By Time Interval
The By Time Interval option displays coverage based on consecutive time intervals throughout the day. You can define the interval length in the Interval field and set a custom starting point in the Start Time field. When a start time is specified, the day is divided into sequential intervals beginning from that time.
- 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM
You can create custom time intervals, with the smallest possible interval being 1 minute. When you open Coverage Options, you can also configure the default time interval shown. These settings are available in Config mode.
- Shift Count: This option counts the number of shifts that overlap with a given time interval. Each shift that covers any part of the interval is counted as 1, regardless of how much of the interval it covers. The value displayed with this option is always a whole number.
For example, if two shifts overlap with a 2-hour interval, the Shift Count is 2, even if one shift only covers 15 minutes of the interval.
- Shift Count (Decimal): This option calculates the scheduled value by dividing the portion of the shift that overlaps with a given interval by the duration of that interval. Fractional coverage is displayed for each interval, indicating the portion of a shift that corresponds to that time period.
For example, if a shift overlaps with only 1 hour of a 2-hour interval, the Shift Count (Decimal) is 0.5 for that interval. If a shift fully covers a 2-hour interval, the value is 1.
Similar to By Position and By Part options, you can specify what displays in the Coverage panel using the same options for Display Employee Count.
Time Interval Filter
- Shift Label: Shifts with the selected labels
- Shift Type: Shifts of the selected types
- Activity Allocation: Activities that belong to the selected allocation
- Shift Color: Shifts configured with the selected color
- Intervals: The interval selected in the filter.
The Filter icon turns blue when any filter is active, and a Reset option is available to clear all filters.
Enable Hide Empty Coverage Rows to remove positions without scheduled coverage from the display. If the check box is not enabled, those empty rows remain visible. You can change the default behavior of this setting in Config mode.
