Enabling or disabling PIN validation for a TimeTrack reader
PIN authentication is enabled by default in TimeTrack provided a PIN number is provided in the Employee Badge. This procedure outlines how to enable or disable PIN authentication at the reader level. PIN authentication cannot be disabled at the employee level.
To enable or disable PIN validation:
- Select .
- Click the link next to the TimeTrack reader for your device.
- Select or deselect the check box depending on your preference.
- Click .
- If you are enabling PIN validation at the reader level, then select .
- Click the link next to the employee badge.
- Enter a PIN for the employee.
- To apply this change to many employees, you can import the PIN numbers into the employee badge records.
- Click .
You should also note:
- If PIN is enabled at the Reader, then all employees must use PIN (PIN is always prompted) to process the swipe.
- If PIN is disabled at the Reader, then all employees swipes are processed without prompting for PIN.
Condition that triggers the issue:
If the PIN enablement setting in Reader maintenance does not match the PIN enablement in the reader configuration, for example, PIN is enabled in one place and disabled in the other, TimeTrack can stall after PIN entry and then return to the TimeTrack homepage without recording the transaction.
How to resolve the issue:
Ensure that the PIN enablement setting is consistent between Reader maintenance and the reader configuration.
From release 2026.01 and later, the PIN for TimeTrack is controlled only by the reader configuration and the Reader maintenance PIN setting no longer affects TimeTrack behavior.
