Configuring Day parts

Day part sets must be defined for teams that are scheduled using MVS. A day part set is a group of day parts that spans a 24-hour period. For example, a day part set of a unit in a healthcare environment can cover morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Day parts are defined with a start and end time. The day parts in a set must cover an entire 24-hour period when combined. Each day part in a set must not overlap with the other day parts in the same set. You can associate shifts with one or more individual day parts in their shift configuration. The shifts count toward staffing requirements for the associated day part when coverage is calculated by shift in the MVS schedule screens.

After a day part set is defined, you can associate the set to teams so that the teams can use the day parts included in the set. You can also associate the day part set with a team's sub-teams by enabling the Apply to Sub Teams check box.

Override day part sets on child teams

Child teams can independently override an inherited day part set, even when the parent team has Apply to Sub Teams enabled. Individual sub-teams can use a day part set that better fits their scheduling requirements without affecting the parent team's configuration or other sub-teams.

When you save a parent team's day part set configuration with Apply to Sub Teams enabled, a confirmation prompt with these options displays:

  • Override All Sub Teams: Removes all existing child-level overrides and applies the parent team's day part set to all sub-teams.

  • Keep Existing Overrides: Applies the parent team's day part set only to sub-teams that do not already have their own day part set configured, preserving any child-level overrides.

This ensures you have control over whether to respect or replace existing sub-team configurations when propagating a day part set from the parent team.
