Business example 2: Shift Premium Zone Rule
This example covers these business needs:
- Employees earn one hour of premium pay for every hour of eligible work between 23:00 and 4:00.
- Premiums are paid at 25% of the employee's base rate.
- Premiums are charged against the employee's default labor allocation.
- Employees must be scheduled to a shift which starts on or after 22:00 to be eligible to earn a premium. This scheduled shift takes into account the employee's default shift and any applied overrides which have modified the employee's schedule.
- Employees must start work on or after 22:00 to be eligible to earn a premium.
- Employees must work at least 2 hours between 2:00 and 4:00 to be eligible to earn a premium.

Results
2a - Employee earns a premium
In this example result, the employee's default shift is the NIGHT shift, which starts at 18:00 and ends at 01:00, however the supervisor has created a shift override and switched the employee to the OVERNIGHT shift on Thursday, which starts at 22:00 and ends at 04:30. The employee records working from 22:00 to 4:00, leaving 30 minutes early in lieu of a break.
 
          The employee has worked 5 hours of eligible time within the zone, was scheduled to a shift which starts after 22:00, the employee started work at 22:00, and worked 2 hours between 2:00 and 4:00, so the Shift Premium Zone Rule pays the employee a premium.
The employee earns a 5 hour premium, paid at $3 (25% his 12.00 base rate), charged against his default labor allocation, the ONSITE job and SUPPORT department.
 
         2b - Employee is not scheduled to start work after 22:00
In this example result, the employee's default shift is the NIGHT shift and his supervisor has not changed his schedule. The employee records working from 18:00 to 20:00, taking a half hour break, and then working from 20:30 to 1:00.
 
          Although the employee has recorded eligible time in the zone, from 23:00 to 1:00, the employee was not scheduled to start work after 22:00, nor did he start work after 22:00, or work 2 hours between 2:00 and 4:00, so the Shift Premium Zone Rule does not pay the employee a premium.
2c - Employee does not start work after 22:00
In this example result, the employee is scheduled to work the OVERNIGHT shift. The employee records working from 20:00 to 1:30, taking a 30 minute break, and working from 2:00 to 4:00.
 
          Although the employee has recorded eligible time in the zone, from 21:00 to 1:30 and from 2:00 to 4:00, the employee started work too soon, at 20:00, not on or after 22:00, so the Shift Premium Zone Rule does not pay the employee a premium.
2d - Employee does not work enough
In this example result, the employee is scheduled to work the OVERNIGHT shift. The employee records working from 22:00 to 1:30, taking a 30 minute break, and receiving training from 2:00 to 4:00.
 
          Although the employee has recorded eligible time in the zone, from 23:00 to 1:30, the employee's scheduled time and work start time match the zone's conditions, the employee did not work 2 hours between 2:00 and 4:00, so the Shift Premium Zone Rule does not pay the employee a premium.
