Geolocation API and Workforce Management
When using WFM in a standard browser, the location services is supplied by the browser.
Geographic Information System (GIS) services is not included in WFM. WFM depends entirely on the GIS browser or app to supply accurate and available location data.
Location data may be inaccurate when obtained from devices without GPS chips, such as desktops or tablets. Users cannot control this limitation through WFM.
To use geolocation-based features such as clock validation, devices that support GPS must be used. Devices such as mobile devices with GPS generally provide more accurate location results. The location coordinates are provided by the user's device and are used by WFM for validation purposes. The accuracy of the location data provided by the device is not influenced by WFM.
When implementing geofencing, consider these factors:
- GPS accuracy: Varies depending on the environment, urban and rural areas.
- Device settings: GPS, cellular data, and Wi-Fi must be enabled for accurate location detection.
- Location service: Tall buildings, underground locations, or poor network connectivity can affect location accuracy.
- Mobile devices: GPS, cellular data, or Wi-Fi enabled.
- Desktop devices: Require network-based location validation, which is less accurate than GPS.
