Coverage Options

You can change how the coverage information is displayed in the Total Coverage panel by clicking the Coverage Options icon.

Use these Display Coverage options to control the details shown on the Scheduling screen and tailor the view to your preferences:
  • By Position
  • By Day Part
  • By Shift Count
  • By Time Interval

By Position

The By Position option displays coverage information in this order: Team, Position, Day Part. Each row in the coverage view represents a specific position, such as RN, TECH, or INTERN, showing how many employees are scheduled for that role during each time segment.

You can specify what displays in the Coverage panel with these options:
  • Display Time
    • By Shift: Shows coverage based on scheduled shifts
    • By Hours: Displays coverage in decimal hours for each day part
    • By FTE: Converts coverage into full-time equivalent units for comparison
  • Display Employee Count
    • By Over/Under: Highlights whether coverage exceeds or falls short of requirements
    • By Coverage: Shows the actual number of employees scheduled for each day part.

Coverage calculations compare required workload and scheduled workload for each Team–Job–Day Part. Required workload is shown in hours or converted to FTE, and scheduled workload is based on shift hours.

Note: The Include Shifts section is fixed to All, meaning the coverage view always includes all assigned and unassigned shifts.

By Day Part

The By Day Part option displays coverage by dividing the day into predefined time segments, called day parts, and then grouping data within those segments. The Day part are sorted into these level: Team, Day Part, Position.

Similar to By Position, you can specify what displays in the Coverage panel using the same options for Display Time and Display Employee Count. The Include Shifts section is also fixed to All, meaning the view always includes both assigned and unassigned shifts.

This provides visibility into staffing and workload distribution across different parts of the day, such as morning, afternoon, or evening, and highlights gaps or overages in specific time blocks.

By Shift Count

The By Shift Count option displays coverage by the total number of shifts on each day. The shift counts are sorted into these levels: overall shifts, by team, by job, and by shift label.

Note: Shifts that have been modified through detail edits or partial book offs are counted towards their original shift label.
You can use the options in the Include Shifts section to determine which shifts are included in the shift counts. The All option includes both assigned and unassigned shifts. The Assigned option includes only assigned shifts. These assigned shifts are included in the shift counts:
  • MVS shifts assigned to any employee currently displayed in ASV
  • Partially booked off shifts with at least one minute of working time remaining
  • Partially floated away shifts with at least one minute of working time remaining
These assigned shifts are not included:
  • Fully booked off shifts
  • Fully floated away shifts
  • Approved time off requests on unscheduled days
  • Non-MVS shifts

The Unassigned option includes only unassigned shifts. Unfilled relief shifts are counted as unassigned shifts, including relief shifts that are not displayed in ASV due to their relief status.

Time Interval Filter

When you select the By Time Interval option, an additional Filter icon appears in the Coverage Options panel. Clicking this icon opens a window where you can apply filters to narrow the coverage view:
  • Shift Label: Shifts with the selected labels
  • Shift Type: Shifts of the selected types
  • Activity Allocation: Activities that belong to the selected allocation
  • Shift Color: Shifts configured with the selected color
  • Intervals: The interval selected in the filter

The Filter icon turns blue when any filter is active, and a Reset option is available to clear all filters.

Note: These filters are available and functional only when By Time Interval is enabled. Use them to focus the coverage display specifically for interval-based views.

Enable Hide Empty Coverage Rows to remove positions without scheduled coverage from the display. If the check box is not enabled, those empty rows remain visible. You can change the default behavior of this setting in Config mode.
