administrator
A system user with authorization to perform complex system
tasks.
bid
An action that employees take to assign shifts or shift patterns
to their schedule. After the shift or shift pattern is taken, it is not
available to be bid on by other employees.
bid group
A collection of employees bidding on the same set of
shifts or shift patterns.
bid mode
A component of a schedule bid that defines the manner
of the bidding. The bid modes are sequential, concurrent,
sequential/concurrent, and preferential.
bid order
The sequence that is used to present employees the
opportunity to bid on available shifts or shift patterns.
bid period
A period of time during which a schedule bid is open
for bidding. A bid period is divided into subsets of time called bid windows.

bid preference
An optional component of a schedule bid that an
administrator can set up. The administrator selects a set of fields for a shift
or shift pattern and employees can rank these fields to assign value. When the
assignments are calculated, the preferences are used to make the
schedule.
bid window
A period of time during which a specific employee (or
set of employees) can bid. A bid window is a subset of time within the bid
period. See also bid period.
calculate
An action that determines which bid windows the
employees will use and which schedule assignments have resulted from the bid
process.
close bid
An action that an administrator takes to stop the bid
process.
concurrent bidding
All employees bid at once and rank available shifts
or shift patterns.
employee
Within the Schedule Bidding module, the user that is
assigned to a bid window. The employee uses that scheduled time to select or
rank the shifts or shift patterns that are available to them.
Inbox
A messaging feature that stores all unread messages
and messages you have not moved to another location.
Job Scheduler
A feature that runs automated tasks within the system
at specified times or time intervals. Administrators can also run unscheduled
tasks manually.
messaging
A module consisting of an internal electronic mail
messaging system that employees and supervisors use to communicate with one
another.
notification
Within the Schedule Bidding module, a feature that
sends messages to employees to inform them about the bid window they are
assigned to. Notifications are also used to inform employees of the schedule
assignments that have resulted from the bid process.
open bid
An action an administrator takes to begin the bid
process.
override
Manual changes that a supervisor makes to an
employee’s schedule. Actions that a supervisor performs on the schedule, such
as adding/deleting jobs and assigning employees to shifts, are
overrides.
pause bid
An action an administrator takes to interrupt the bid
process to make changes.
preferential bidding
Employees set up their shift or shift pattern
preferences and shift assignments are based on these preferences. Employees do
not have to bid during a bid window.
preview
A feature that lets administrators see the shift or
shift pattern assignments before the assignments are sent to the
employees.
rank
A component of the bid process that lets employees
give preference to a set of shifts or shift patterns that are available to them
in the bid process.
schedule bid
A set of shifts or shift patterns that are available
to be filled for a specific period of time through a bidding
process.
Schedule Bidding module
A module that lets companies mass-assign shifts or
shift patterns to employees based on an automated employee ranking and bidding
system.
schedule bid header
The information that is required to define how the
bid is conducted. Examples of bid header information include minutes per bid
window and number of bid windows.
sequential/concurrent bidding
A combination of concurrent and sequential bidding,
where a set of employees are assigned to a bid window. Employees within a bid
window bid concurrently, where each bid window is sequentially
ordered.
sequential bidding
Employees bid individually in a pre-defined order and
select the shift or shift pattern they prefer.
shift
Scheduled time frame in which an employee is expected
to work.
shift or shift pattern assignment
A set of shifts or shift patterns that are assigned
to employees through the Schedule Bidding module that becomes their official
schedule.
shift pattern
A set of shifts that are worked in a pre-defined
order.
shift pattern assignment task
A task set in the Job Scheduler that takes bidding
information gathered from employees and converts it into an actual
schedule.
