Recall Rule

Class Name

com.workbrain.app.ta.quickrules.Recall

Overview

Often, employees are given extra pay if they are called in to work after having gone home after their scheduled shift. This extra pay is referred to as "Recall Pay" or "Call-in Pay". Employees might also be entitled to this pay if they work on their OFF day or if they are asked to come in to work before their normal shift. Generally, the employee must have been at home for a certain time period (for example, at least an hour) before being entitled to Recall Pay. To differentiate recall hours from other hours, the application may change the time worked as recall to another time code.

Also, employees are often guaranteed a minimum number of paid hours for coming in on a recall. This minimum is often 2 hours, but may vary from site to site. If the employee does not work the minimum number of guaranteed hours paid, the application will pay them the difference using the specified code.

The differences between the Recall Rule and the Guarantees Rule are:

  • The Guarantees Rule performs a top up of any time code at any time of the day. The Recall Rule performs a top up, but only for time that is outside of the employee's schedule.
  • The Guarantees Rule can be daily or weekly. The Recall Rule can be configured differently for time before the employee's shift, after the employee's shift, or a day off.

Parameters

Pre-Shift Recall

Parameter Description
UAT Code(s) A list of time codes indicating that an employee is not working.
Eligible Time Codes A list of time codes indicating that an employee is working recall.
Minimum UAT Minutes Before Shift Defines the minimum amount of time off between the recall period and the scheduled shift start. This minimum must be met for the employee to be entitled to pre-shift recall. When an employee works non-contiguous time before their scheduled shift, the application uses this parameter to determine if the employee is eligible to have this period of time considered recall. Most organizations require at least an hour (60 minutes) of OFF time before they pay recall.

In the case where they do not get the recall due to the OFF time minimum, the assumption is that the employee remains at work and waits until the shift starts, as opposed to returning home and then returning to work. This arrangement is less of an inconvenience.

Here is an example: An employee is scheduled to work from 7:00-15:00. They are called in to work from 2:00-3:00 to fix a broken pipe. If the parameter was set to 60 minutes, they are eligible for the time period to be considered RECALL. But if they worked from 2:00-6:30, they would not be eligible as the assumption is that they are going to stay and work their scheduled shift.

Guaranteed Minutes Before Shift The minimum amount of time that an employee is entitled to be paid should they work on pre-shift recall.
Guarantee Time Code Before Shift The code that is to be used to pay the difference between the minimum guaranteed pay (Guaranteed Minutes Before Shift) and the actual pay.
Guarantee Hour Type Before Shift The hour type that is to be used to pay the difference between the minimum guaranteed pay (Guaranteed Minutes Before Shift) and the actual pay.
Assign Time Code Before Shift The code that is to be used to change the before-shift work details with eligible time codes.

Post-Shift Recall

Parameter Description
Minimum UAT Minutes After Shift Defines the minimum amount of time off between the recall period and the scheduled shift end. This minimum must be met for the employee to be entitled to post-shift recall. When an employee works non-contiguous time after their scheduled shift, the application uses this parameter to determine whether the employee is eligible to have this period of time considered recall. Most organizations require at least an hour (60 minutes) of OFF time before they pay recall. See the Minimum UAT Minutes Before Shift parameter for an example.
Guaranteed Minutes After Shift The minimum amount of time that an employee is entitled to be paid should they be working on post-shift recall. Defaults to 120 minutes (2 hours).
Guarantee Time Code After Shift The code that will be used to pay the difference between the minimum guaranteed pay (Guaranteed Minutes After Shift) and the actual pay.
Guarantee Hour Type After Shift The hour type that will be used to pay the difference between the minimum guaranteed pay (Guaranteed Minutes After Shift) and the actual pay.
Assign Time Code After Shift The code that will be used to change the after-shift work details with eligible time codes.

Day-off Recall

Parameter Description
Guaranteed Minutes - Day Off The minimum number of hours the employee is entitled to be paid should they work recall on an OFF day.
Time Code - Day Off The time code that is used to pay the guarantee on an OFF day.
