Results

These examples assume that a schedule is posted on January 1 for January 16-22 and that the employee's base rate is $20 per hour.

3a: Additional work time with less than 14 days notice

In this example, an employee is scheduled to work on January 16 from 10:00 to 16:00. The user changes the employee's schedule on January 3 for a non-exempt reason. The employee is now scheduled to work on January 16 from 9:00 to 17:00.

Since the shift was increased with less than 14 days but more than 7 days notice, the first instance of the rule applies. In this case, a premium is inserted for 60 minutes at $10.00.

The employee has these work details on January 16 after the rule is applied:

Start Time End Time Hours Rate Time Code Hour Type
9:00 17:00 8:00 20.00 WRK REG
1:00 10.00 FAIR REG

Since the shift time changed with less than 7 days but more than 24 hours notice, the third instance of the rule applies. In this case, a premium is inserted for 60 minutes at $15.00.

The employee has these work details on January 16 after the rule is applied:

Start Time End Time Hours Rate Time Code Hour Type

3c: Reduce work time with less than 24 hours notice

In this example, an employee is scheduled to work on January 16 from 10:00 to 18:00. The user changes the employee's schedule on January 15 at 16:00 for a non-exempt reason. The employee is now scheduled to work on January 16 from 10:00 to 16:00.

Since the shift was decreased with less than 24 hours notice, the sixth instance of the rule applies. In this case, a premium is inserted for 60 minutes at $75.00.

The employee has these work details on January 16 after the rule is applied:

Start Time End Time Hours Rate Time Code Hour Type
10:00 16:00 6:00 20.00 WRK REG

In this case, a premium is inserted for 60 minutes at $15.00 for cancelling the shift on January 16 with less than 14 days notice. Since the shift on January 18 was added with more than 14 days notice, the employee is not owed predictability pay for January 18.
