Recommended configuration of the Day Split Rule

We recommend configuring multiple instances of the Day Split Rule at different execution points, depending on your organization's needs.

See Rule execution points.

To create system-generated clocks when processed clocks are moved according to the day split time, you only need one instance of the rule. This should be added before the After Clocks Applied execution point.

If you also want to copy and split work details, you must add two additional instances, one to copy the details and one to split them. Both Copy and Split rules must be configured for copying and splitting work details to work properly.

To block manual work detail entries, add an instance of the rule after the Rules Applied execution point. If you are also copying and splitting work details, this parameter can be configured with the Split rule.

For example, this is the recommended configuration if you are both copying and splitting work details and blocking manual entries:

  1. Add the first instance of the rule to create system-generated clocks before After Clocks Applied. This should be the first pay rule for the calc group.

For the first instance of the rule, set only the maximum number of minutes allowed between the last clock on day one and the first clock on day two parameter. We suggest setting the value to 720 minutes (12 hours).

  2. Add a second instance of the rule to copy work details before After Timesheet Overrides Applied. This will copy work details that were split from previous day to the current day.

For the second instance, select Copy Work Details and specify the eligible time codes and hour types.

  3. Add a third instance of the rule to split work details for the current day and block manual entries after Rules Applied. This should be the last pay rule for the calc group

For the third instance, select Split Work Details and Block manual Work Detail entries on or after Day Split Time and specify the eligible time codes and hour types.

For both the second and third instance, you must also specify values for the Time Code to replace the original Time Code and Hour Type to replace the original Hour Type parameters.

Note: The values that you specify for the second and third instances of the rule must match.
