Obtaining approvals
Shift Billboard workflows can include Role nodes to require approval from users with specific roles. When a request is routed to a Role node in the workflow, an approval decision is required before the request can progress to the next node. A workmail is sent to the appropriate user or users to request the approval. Users can approve or reject a request directly in the workmail message in any part of the application.
User roles for approval are based on the assigned roles for the home team of the employee that is posting, claiming, or withdrawing the shift. For example in the default workflow, approval is required from the team supervisor for shift posting or claiming requests that would introduce schedule compliance warnings into the schedule. When an employee requests to post or claim a shift that requires approval due to schedule compliance warnings, the supervisor for the employee's home team is sent a workmail message to approve or reject the request.
Role nodes can be added to require additional approval steps. Role nodes can also be modified to change the role that is required to approve requests at that stage in the workflow. A Role node can be configured to require approval from a role that has multiple users by selecting a virtual role in the Role node. When multiple users may provide an approval, the first approval decision determines how to advance the request through the workflow. After a user provides an approval decision, workmail messages for the request are removed from the inbox for any other users with the required virtual role.
