Editing shift details in Central Staffing
You can edit the details of an assigned or unassigned shift in Central Staffing. For example, you can extend the length of a shift by an hour.
- Load a schedule.

Right-click the shift you want to edit and select Edit Shift.
The Edit Shift pop-up opens and displays the details for the selected shift.

Perform these steps to modify the shift's work or on-call details.

Specify this information for each work or on-call detail:
- Start Time
- Specify the time when the detail starts.Note: If the start time for the detail occurs on the day after the shift date, select Next in the Detail Day field. If the start time for the detail occurs the day before the shift date, select Previous in the Detail Day field.
- End Time
- Specify the time when the detail ends.
- Job
- Specify the job that is covered by the detail.
- Activity
- Specify the activity for the detail.
- Docket
- Optionally, select a docket for the detail.
- Department
- Optionally, select a department for the detail.
- Project
- Optionally, select a project for the detail.
- UDFs and Flags
- Optionally, specify values for shift detail UDF and Flag fields. The names and behaviors of these fields are set by the system administrator during configuration.
Note: If any details in the shift are booked off, the Leave Reason field is displayed and lists the reason selected when booking off the shift details. The Leave Comments tab is also displayed to list comments made when the book off was completed. The information in these sections is read only. -
Use these options to add additional work or on-call details to the
shift:
- Click Add Work to add a new work detail.
- Click Add On-call to add a new on-call detail.
- Click the Copy button to create a new detail with the same activity, times, and labor metrics as the selected row.
- Click Delete to delete a work or on-call detail. A shift must have at least one work or on-call detail.

Specify this information for each work or on-call detail:

In the Breaks tab, perform these steps
to modify break details in the shift.

Specify this information for each break detail:
- Start Time
- Specify the start time for the break.
- Duration
- Specify the duration of the break in minutes.
- Type
- Specify the activity for the break.
- UDFs and Flags
- Optionally, specify values for break detail UDF and Flag fields. The names and behaviors of these fields are set by the system administrator during configuration.

Use these options to add additional break details to the shift:
- Click Add Breaks to add a break detail to the shift.
- Click the Copy button to create a new break detail with the same options as the selected row.
- Click the Delete button to delete a break detail.

In the Skills tab, perform these steps
to modify the shift's skill requirements.

Specify this information for each skill requirement:
- Skill
- Select the name of the skill.
- Proficiency
- Specify the level of proficiency that the assigned employee must meet or exceed to satisfy the skill requirement.
- Mandatory
- Enable this check box to designate the skill requirement as mandatory.
- UDFs and Flags
- Optionally, specify values for skill UDF and Flag fields. The names and behaviors of these fields are set by the system administrator during configuration.
- Click Add Skills to add a skill requirement to the shift.
- Click the Delete button to delete a skill requirement.

Specify this information for each skill requirement:
- In the Data Elements tab, specify values for shift summary UDF and Flag fields. The names and behaviors of these fields are set by the system administrator during configuration.

Click Submit.
The updated details are validated for these conditions:
- The assigned employee has the job and skill qualifications required to perform the shift.
- Updating the shift does not cause schedule overlaps with other shifts or LTAs in the assigned employee's schedule. When lengthening a shift that overlaps a later shift, a warning message is displayed that the later shift will be shortened if the edit is completed. If the shift overlaps an LTA with a Time Off activity type or fully overlaps a later shift, an error message is displayed and the edits cannot be completed.
If no warnings or errors are found, the shift is updated.

If warnings or errors are found, perform one of these options:
- If only warnings are found, click Submit again to accept the warnings and perform the shift edit. Or, update the selected options or click Close to cancel the edit.
- If any errors are found, update the selected options or click Close to cancel the edit.
