Solution overview
An activity must first be designated as an "on-call type" in MVS. Such activities could then be used in on-call shifts, which allow users to add work time that is concurrent with the on-call time during callback or shift extension scenarios. Any shift containing activity of on-call type is automatically recorded in MVS in a way to allow concurrent work time.
Example: MVS on-call shift with no work time
In the example, an employee has an on-call shift from 7:00 to 19:00 with no work time:
Type | Start | End | Activity |
---|---|---|---|
Work | - | - | - |
Break | - | - | - |
On-call | 7:00 | 19:00 | ONCALL |
Example: MVS on-call shift with work time
In the example, an employee has an on-call shift from 7:00 to 19:00 with concurrent work time from 9:00-13:00:
Type | Start | End | Activity |
---|---|---|---|
Work | 9:00 | 13:00 | WRK |
Break | - | - | - |
On-call | 7:00 | 19:00 | ONCALL |
Example: MVS on-call shift with work time and break
In the example, an employee has an on-call shift from 7:00 to 19:00 with concurrent work time from 9:00-17:00 and a break from 13:00 to 13:30:
Type | Start | End | Activity |
---|---|---|---|
Work | 9:00 | 17:00 | WRK |
Break | 13:00 | 13:30 | BRK |
On-call | 7:00 | 19:00 | ONCALL |
On-call shifts
The shifts containing on-call time can be plotted in Master Rotations and One-time Schedules, added to shift templates, or scheduled as ad-hoc shifts. On-call shifts can be scheduled as part of an employee's schedule like any other regular MVS shifts. However, unlike regular MVS shifts, on-call shifts can contain concurrent work time inside.
On-call shifts have these restrictions:
- On-call shifts cannot overlap with other regular work shift(s).
- Break(s) can only exist inside of on-call shifts that have work time, and the break(s) must be within the work time.
- On-call time cannot overlap with another on-call time inside of a shift.
- There cannot be a gap between on-call time and work time in a shift (either contiguous or overlapping).
- If a relief shift exists that contains both on-call and work time, then the shift cannot be split and partially assigned using Relief Management; the entire relief shift must be assigned as a whole.
- Shifts containing on-call time cannot be reassigned using the Relief Calling Area; they must be managed outside of relief.
