Merging a shift that has been split

Merging a shift means re-combining a part or all of a shift that has been split. This might be necessary, for example, if the employee who was assigned to take part of a shift is now available to cover the entire shift.

Requirements:
  • A shift must have been split before it can be merged. The Merge Shift button is only available on schedules that contain a split shift.
  • A shift cannot be merged if at least one of the portions has an action, such as, book-off, swap, unassign, relief, or float performed on it. The error message, "Can not merge. Actions have already been performed on the split shift," displays in this case.
  • Shifts to be merged must be continuous. If a time gap exists between two portions of a shift, they cannot be merged.
  • This procedure can only be performed in Details Edit mode. Details Edit mode is enabled through magic wand icon (star attached to small pole) on the middle-right of the menu bar on the schedule page. You cannot perform this procedure in Simple Edit or Mass Edit mode.
  1. From the main menu of WFM, navigate to Scheduling > Multi-view Scheduler > Enhanced Schedule View > Advanced Schedule View.
  2. Move into Details Edit mode if necessary. Click the magic wand icon and select Details Edit.
  3. Select the schedule that contains the shift to be merged. Position your cursor in a portion of the shift and click Merge Shift. If the schedule was split into two portions, they will be combined into one. If the schedule was split into more than two portions, click Merge Shift as often as necessary to merge the portions that should be merged.
  4. Click Submit when you have completed merging the shift.
  5. You can now perform other actions for the shift, such as, assign to another employee.
