Activity and activity types
Activities indicate the type of work occurring within each shift. Typical activities include WRK (work), TRN (training), and ADMIN (administrations). Activities are used in MVS as part of the shift definition.
We recommend that you keep the names of activities short. Leave type activities (such as VAC and SICK) should be established as non-working activity. Any activity that should be accounted for in an employee’s total hours on schedule views must have the Working Activity option selected. As of 6.1, all activities should be associated to the PARENT location.
Once an activity is established, the activity must be associated to a type in MVS. This type allows the system to distinguish between different types of book-off and working shifts. These types are available:
- On: Indicates work or productive time, including meal and break times. Typical activities of this type are WRK, BRK, and UAT.
- Time Off: Indicates leave time. When a user uses these activities to book time off, an LTA override is applied to the employee's timesheet. Typical activities of this type are SICK and VAC.
- Off: Indicates special leave time. When a user uses these activities to book time off, the shift is removed altogether from the employee's timesheet (instead of an LTA override being applied).
- On-call: Indicates time when an employee is on-call. Shifts containing activity of this type allow concurrent work time, so both the on-call time and work time (when the employee is called into work) can be recorded. On-call shifts cannot contain meal or break times.
As of the 6.1.2 release, any leave type activities can be configured to use color. The color highlights shift cells for days with full-day book-offs in the Advanced Schedule View.
