Staff Rules and Employee-Specific Staff Rules
There are two areas where staff rules can be set for an employee:
Employee-specific settings configured when adding an employee. For specific information about employees, see Employees.
Staff rules for the staff group to which the employee belongs.
Settings are available at both levels in order to best support required regulations and when you need to control employee rules at more than an individual level. If there is overlap between what is defined in the employee’s settings and what is defined for the staff group to which the employee belongs, the most restrictive setting is enforced.
For example, minor employee regulations and the maximum number of hours per schedule rule. There is a Max Hours/Schedule field that you set when adding an employee, but there is also the Constraint: Do not assign staff to more than ___ hour(s) schedule in the staff rules. If the manager sets the employee-specific hours to 25 (the allowable maximum for the state or province), but then mistakenly assigns the employee to a staff group that does not allow more than 40 hours, the application will enforce the 25 hour maximum.
Notes for applying rules
The Apply Two Nights/Week Rule and Apply Max Shift/Day Rule settings available at the employee level work in a specific way.
There are equivalent rules in the staff rules area (Constraint: Max 2 nights per week after ___ and Constraint: Do not schedule staff more than ___ shift(s) per day). The staff group controls whether the rule is on or off. The employee-specific setting specifies if it is on or off for the employee.
These settings need to be specified in BOTH the employee settings and the staff group to which the employee belongs before the rule is applied.
