Using the "Tied to Open/Close Time" field in the Employee Shift Pattern form

You can use the Tied to Open/Close Time on the Employee Shift Pattern form (Scheduling > Schedule Optimization > Setup > Employee Shift Pattern) to dictate how the shifts are offset when the Hours of Operations times are modified, without having to change the Start/End Times on the Shift Patterns for every single employee at a location/team.

When Tied to Open/Close Time is set to:

  • OPEN: The Start Time of the employee shift pattern is compared to the Start Time of the Hours of Operation of the location to determine the offset.
  • CLOSE: The End Time of the employee shift pattern is compared to the End Time of the Hours of Operation of the location to determine the offset.
  • REGULAR: No change. This is essentially the same as the null (empty space) option in the list and can be used interchangeably.

Example

If the original shift pattern and Hours of Operation is 9am to 6pm, and the Hours of Operation is then changed to 8am to 7pm, if the Tied to Open/Close Time setting is set to:

  • OPEN: The fixed shift to be scheduled would be 8am to 5pm.
  • CLOSED: The fixed shift to be scheduled would be 10am to 7pm.
  • REGULAR: The fixed shift would be unchanged and would remain 9am to 6pm.
Note: Other factors like schedule rules and constraints may also impact the resulting shifts generated on the schedules.
