Configuring swipe methods

You can configure different swipe methods in the clock.

  • Directionless swipes are interpreted by the application as either IN or OUT clock punches depending on the order in which they occur. The first directionless swipe type for a shift is considered an IN clock punch. The next swipe type is an OUT clock punch.
Note: A directionless swipe configuration should not be used with time approval. With a directionless swipe configuration, time approval cannot be displayed on the clock until swipes have been sent to the WFM application to determine if the swipe is IN or OUT.

    See Using time approval.

  • Swipe and go swipe types act like directionless swipes. The main difference between directionless and swipe and go is speed. Swipe and go is intended to speed up the clock IN/OUT process by only requiring the employee to swipe a badge. Swipe and Go is most effective when no PIN or biometric authentication is configured. Otherwise the employee must stop and provide this authentication.

Depending on your system configuration, you can use either the Readers form or a reader configuration in WFM to configure the swipe method.

See Configuring the clock.

  • In the Readers form, use the Swipe Method field to configure the swipe method. Select Directionless or Swipe and Go.

    See Adding clock readers.

  • If you are using reader configurations, use the swipe_method property in the reader configuration.

    See Using reader configurations.
