Updating the clock operating system

Periodically, the clock vendor issues an operating system updates to resolve defects or provide enhancements. To update the operating system of the 8000 you must use the software update feature of the clock.

  1. Contact Infor support to obtain the patch.
  2. Determine the system download directory by checking this registry parameter:
    /system/clocks/DOWNLOAD_DIR
  3. Unzip the contents of the patch provided into a local directory. A script directory is created which contains these files:
    1. update.sh: This file specifies the update actions and is always included.
    2. <update_name>.tar.gz: This file is optional and may be present if required to update the operating system.
    3. Readme.txt: This file contains important information regarding the patch.
  4. Make a note of the clock software version as follows:
    1. Press the Menu key on the clock.
    2. Press F1 (Clock Info) on the keypad to display information about the clock.
    3. Record the OS Version value. For example: 1.4.1.
    4. Record the OS Patch(s) value. For example: A
  5. If physical access to the clock is not possible, then the same information can be obtained as follows:
    1. Log in into the clock using PuTTY.
    2. Type version and press Enter.
    3. Record the operating system version. For example Synel-OS-1.4.1 2016-11-22-2416. For additional information about the PuTTY utility, see Using PuTTY.
  6. Create the appropriate directories as described in this chapter based on how the clocks should update.
  7. Create the directory script in the update.# directory.
  8. Copy the update.sh and <update_name>.tar.gz to the script directory.
  9. Place an empty text file named update.ready in the system download directory or in every directory that contains files that must be downloaded by your clocks.
If there is no update.ready file, then your clocks do not see the directory and do not start processing the upgrade. You must place an update.ready file in each update.# directory that you create.
Note: Repeat this step for each application server node in a clustered environment.
  10. Depending on the configuration of the software update interval, the clock downloads the files from the script directory, update the operating and reboot if necessary.
  11. After the update is complete check the operating system version as described in step 4.
The Clock Information screen now displays the appropriate OS Version and a patch name.
